Find Black Beans in the Goblin Caves
Harvest Black Beans from the bush on the path past the railroad tracks and ladder in the goblin caves. Reach the caves through the later sewer boat route, then bring the beans back to a Cooking Pot to make Bean Soup.
Bring the Boat Repair Materials
The repair target is the broken Mechanism beside the Boat in the later sewers. Supply 1 Chains and 1 Iron Rod to make the Boat work. The Water Clock and Water Gate are separate mechanisms, so use the boat-side Mechanism for this repair.
If you need more Chains, its Workbench recipe makes 1 Chains from 2 Iron Rods after you have picked up Chains. Keep the boat repair materials separate from anything you plan to craft. Leave some inventory space for the Black Beans you are going to harvest.
Follow the Boat Route to the Bean Bush
- Repair the Mechanism beside the Boat with 1 Chains and 1 Iron Rod so the Boat can travel along the water.
- Ride the Boat to the far end of its route, where the additional fuse switches are waiting.
- Collect the 2 fuse switches at the end of the boat ride for the starting Fuse Box.
- Carry the recovered fuse switches back to the Fuse Box at the start of the boat route.
- Install the recovered switches in the Fuse Box so you can use its additional switches.
- Turn on the top fuse switch to open the door at the far end of the boat route.
- Ride the Boat back to the far end to reach the newly opened doorway into the goblin caves.
- Take the left path uphill through the goblin caves to approach the small entrances along the route.
- Enter the first small opening on your left to reach the railroad track.
- Collect the Explosives found along the railroad track so you can remove the large grey rocks ahead.
- Use Explosives on the blocking rocks to open the path beyond the railroad tracks toward a ladder.
- Continue forward past the ladder to reach the path containing the black bean bush.
- Harvest the Black Beans plant to collect the ingredient used for Bean Soup.
Open the Return Shortcut to the Hub
- Follow the path beyond the bean bush until you reach the large door at its end.
- Position the nearby plank as a bridge so you can reach the door.
- Open the large door from this side to create a shortcut back into the hub area.
Black Beans and the Bean Gem Have Different Uses
| Item | What You Use It For |
|---|---|
| Black Beans, the cooking ingredient | A vegetable harvested from bean plants and used in the Cooking Pot to prepare Bean Soup. |
| Bean Gem, the crypt treasure | A separate treasure found at the bottom of the crypt. It belongs with the gems used at the Sanctuary Door and is not a soup ingredient. |
Cook Bean Soup With Black Beans
- Craft a Cooking Pot from 1 Iron Pot and 3 Iron Rods if you do not already have one.
- Place 2 or 3 Black Beans into the Cooking Pot, with each bean occupying a separate slot and no other ingredients added.
- Light the fire beneath the Cooking Pot so the soup's cooking progress can advance.
- Collect the finished Bean Soup from the pot; each batch produces 1 dish.
Check the Fire and Keep the Soup Fresh
If the cooking bar stops moving, check the fire beneath the Cooking Pot. Cooking progresses only while that fire is burning. For Bean Soup, keep the ingredients to Black Beans alone rather than mixing in other vegetables or meat.
Bean Soup spoils, so cook it close to when you intend to use it. A Food Basket keeps ingredients and food fresh for longer, and you can craft one from 3 Vines. If you are taking the soup to the Queen's Door, keep it fresh: Rotten Food no longer counts on the Table Slots.
