Craft the Harpoon and reel in eels
Craft the Harpoon at a Workbench with 1 Hook and 3 Iron Rods, then aim toward a regular Moray Eel in the water and hold the use or fire action to reel it in. Take a caught eel to the Cooking Table to turn it into Raw Fish Filet for fish recipes.
Materials and stations for the Harpoon
An initial Harpoon can be found in a small chest in the sewers. If you already have that tool, go straight to the fishing steps; the Workbench lets you make a replacement when needed.
| What to make | Materials and station |
|---|---|
| Harpoon | 1 Hook and 3 Iron Rods at the Workbench. |
| Hook for the Harpoon | 1 Iron Rod at the Workbench. |
| Workbench | 3 Wood Planks, 2 Iron Rods and 1 Leather in the Crafting menu. |
| Cooking Table for the catch | 2 Wood Planks and 1 Leather in the Crafting menu. |
Pick up Leather to unlock Cooking Table crafting. That table is for preparing your catch, while the Workbench makes the Harpoon and Hook.
Find Iron Rods and Leather
Look for ready-made Iron Rods in the prison area and in camp chests. Spawn points in the prison and sewers can also produce them, though they often give other items. If you have a Smelter, supply it with Scrap Metal and Coal to produce Iron Rods for crafting.
For Leather, a small sewer chest contains Leather alongside a Bone Club. Once you have Leather and a Workbench, you can make more Leather from Animal Hide. Keep the Leather needed for your crafting stations before spending it on other equipment.
Make the Harpoon at the Workbench
- Build a Workbench from the Crafting menu if you do not already have one. This gives you the station needed to make the Harpoon.
- Craft a Hook at the Workbench if you do not have one. Save that Hook for the Harpoon recipe.
- Craft the Harpoon at the Workbench once its recipe is available. You now have the fishing tool used to catch regular Moray Eels.
Hold the action to reel in a Moray Eel
- Aim the Harpoon toward a regular Moray Eel in the water to begin your fishing attempt.
- Hold the use or fire action to reel in the catch. Keep the action held rather than giving it a quick tap.
- Check the result after a successful catch. You can receive a Moray Eel, and sometimes Algae.
- Process the caught Moray Eel at the Cooking Table. This turns it into Raw Fish Filet for cooking and fish recipes.
Cook the catch and choose the right target
For a simple cooked result, turn the Raw Fish Filet into Grilled Fish on a Skillet, in an Oven or on a Rotisserie. You can also keep the filet for fish recipes such as Fish Wrap, Raw Fish Pastel or Raw Fish Pie. Both Moray Eel and Raw Fish Filet spoil, so plan to prepare what you catch.
The Giant Moray Eel boss is a separate fight, and the Harpoon is not required to defeat it. The Harpoon catches regular Moray Eels, but deals ordinary damage to the giant boss while it lies down. It cannot catch the boss as a regular eel.
